Short Street between the two Museums will be blocked off from traffic and filled with music, activities, food, dancing and special exhibits relating to our Patriotic and Cultural heritage.

Patriots Hall will serve food from 11:30-1pm, The Powerty Ridge Band will play bluegrass in the morning and The Dixie Keys Brass Ensemble will play patriotic music from lunch time through the afternoon.

And the Natural Natives will be selling native plants in front of the Heritage Center in the morning. Plus there will be dancers in the afternoon and lots of other activities for the entire family.

Project Updates Jake Sluder Heritage Park & The Heritage Reading Room The Heritage Park will be the final destination for the memorial bricks. Work will begin when weather permits. Stairs, heating/air, and a restroom have been installed for the Reading Room. Southern Appalachian Farmstead The Farmstead proposal is in the final stages of review by the U.S. Forest Service. A decision regarding the issuance of a Special Use Permit for use of the Russell Farmstead property will be made in the near future. Opposition against this project has emerged in the past several months and your support is more crucial now than ever. Westminster Satellite Museum - England’s Store MoreSun Custom Woodworking recently restored one of the original counters from England’s Store. The Barrett-Jones building will also be getting a new roof this month and renovations will continue inside. The OHC is working toward having the museum open by January 2011. What’s New in the Museum Come check out our Up Hill Both Ways exhibit and see a cadet uniform from the first graduating class of Clemson University. Also on display are local school annuals, books, programs, announcements, and photos. What’s New in the gift shop Jerry Alexander’s newest book Blood Red Runs the Sacred Keowee is now on sale in paperback. WAHPS cookbooks and WW2 Veterans books are also on sale.

An American Girls Club meets at the Oconee Heritage Center on the first Saturday of each month from 1:00 - 3:00pm. The club is free and open to everyone. Each month, club members learn about American history through crafts, programs and special projects.

Old-Time Music Gathering

The OHC hosts an Old-Time Music Gathering each month on the second Saturday from 3:00 -5:00pm. The event is free and open to everyone. Many of our guests bring homemade goodies to share.

The house band, known as the Heritage String Band, consists of Bill and Connie Lowe, Mike Crane and Nick Gambrell. The Heritage String Band recently released its first CD which is available at the Center for $12.

The OHC hosts a "Movie Night at the Museum" on the 3rd Saturday of each month beginning at 6:30 pm. Each classic movie is prefaced by a short presentation on the history associated with the film. There is no admission charge and free popcorn will be provided. Patrons are welcome to bring a comfortable chair of choice. Other seating is provided.
